………………………………………
Yesterday he still looked in my eyes, yet
today his looks are bent aside. Yesterday
he sat here until the birds began, but
today all those larks are ravens.
——————————————————-
Stupid creature! And you are wise, you
live while I am stunned.
Now for the lament of women in all times:
—My love, what was it I did to you?
——————————————————-
And tears are water, blood is water
a woman always washes in blood and tears.
Love is a step-mother, and no mother:
then expect no justice or mercy from her.
———————————————————
Ships carry away the ones we love.
Along the white road they are taken away.
And one cry stretches across the earth:
—My love, what was it I did to you?
———————————————————
Yesterday he lay at my feet. He even
compared me with the Chinese empire! Then
suddendly he let his hands fall open, and
my life fell out like a rusty kopeck
———————————————————-
A child-murderer, before some court
I stand loathsome and timid I am.
And yet even in Hell I shall demand:
—My love, what was it I did to you?
———————————————————-
I ask this chair, I ask the bed: Why?
Why do I suffer and live in penury?
His kisses stopped. He wanted to break you.
To kiss another girl is their reply.
————————————————————-
He taught me to lie in fire, he threw me there,
and then abandoned me on steppes of ice.
My love, I know what you have done to me.
—My love, what was it I did to you?
——————————————————
I know everything, don’t argue with me!
I can see now, I’m a lover no longer.
And now I know wherever love holds power
Death approaches soon like a gardener.
—————————————————-
It is almost like shaking a tree, in time
some ripe apple comes falling down. So
for everything, for everything forgive me,
—my love whatever is was I did to you.

It means that you’re bi-cultural: both Asian and American, yet neither at the same time. In Asia, you’re American; in America, you’re Asian. You are also bi-cultural in the sense that you walk a fine line between being a person of color and being a token white.
It means that…

EMERGENCY LISTSERV 11-11-11
Dear McGill students,
Some of you were present last night as events unfolded with riot police on campus, while others of you have seen images and videos shared via social media or heard reports from friends and classmates, while yet others are likely still unaware of these events.
The McGill Administration released a statement earlier today. However, we feel that students may remain confused about what transpired. Consequently, here is an outline of the events as we understand them, our reaction as the SSMU Executive, and information regarding support services for those students who were physically or emotionally harmed by last night’s events.
What happened: our understanding
On November 10th, over 20,000 students across Quebec marched throughout Montreal in protest of proposed tuition hikes. The march ended at rue McGill College at around 4:00 PM when reports of a peaceful student occupation in the McGill James Administration building started spreading. Students started moving towards James Administration to understand what was occurring as well as to provide support to the students occupying the building therein.
Accounts from News Media & Social Media
Below are several news reports about what happened last night.

Our Concerns
To our knowledge, approximately 100 police officers dressed in riot gear entered McGill campus yesterday for the first time since 1969. Their use of force included physical assault on students, staff and members of the Montreal community, as well as aggressive use of pepper spray and tear gas. This was grossly disproportionate to the peaceful (if noisy) gathering that had been taking place before they arrived. We are also extremely concerned about reports of physical aggression on the part of McGill Security Services, which some claim assaulted peaceful and unarmed students who had entered the James Administration building.
We are appalled and deeply saddened by the presence of riot police on our campus. The acts of
brutality that occurred last night have no place on a university campus. The presence of riot police on our university campus threatened the physical and psychological integrity of students and other members of the McGill community, including those who were simply passing by on their way home. We are glad to read that the McGill Administration has opened an independent investigation of the events. We will be happy to help in any way to ensure that this inquiry will fully and truthfully reflect yesterday’s events as they unfolded.
“So why do I talk about the benefits of failure? Simply because failure meant a stripping away of the inessential. I stopped pretending to myself that I was anything other than what I was, and began to direct all my energy into finishing the only work that mattered to me. Had I really succeeded at anything else, I might never have found the determination to succeed in the one arena I believed I truly belonged. I was set free, because my greatest fear had been realized, and I was still alive, and I still had a daughter whom I adored, and I had an old typewriter and a big idea. And so rock bottom became the solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life. You might never fail on the scale I did, but some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default.”

J.K. Rowling wrote her first novel on an old typewriter or by hand sitting in cafe’s at night while raising a child by herself and surviving on welfare. I think about this literally every day.
